What is Newspaper in Education?
Newspaper in Education (NIE) is a collaboration of The Flint Journal, schools and local businesses to use the newspaper as a teaching tool in the classroom.
Who can participate?
Teachers of kindergarten through 12th grade, special education courses or adult education classes can use newspapers to bridge the gap between textbooks and today's current events.

Free Curriculum
Choose from a variety of teacher resource guides and student supplements with ideas and lessons to use the newspaper. Click on NIE curriculum to see what is available.

Field Trips
NIE classrooms are eligible to tour The Flint Journal in downtown Flint. Contact the NIE Coordinator to learn more about scheduling tours.

Get ideas and instructions on how to use newspapers in your classes with a free workshop by The Flint Journal's NIE Coordinator, Rebecca Lucia.

How much does NIE cost?
Newspapers cost as low as $0.122 per copy. A minimum daily delivery order is 15 newspapers. Local businesses provide some sponsorships for classrooms in need of financial help. Sponsorships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To help as many classrooms as possible, we ask each classroom to pay a one-time school year cost of $15 per classroom.
