MONDAY
Pigskin Geography - Begins September 11. Grades 5–8
This fall, team up with the Detroit Lions and The Flint Journal to teach U.S. geography in a way your students will not forget. Weekly worksheets help students learn US geography as they follow NFL teams each week in their travels to stadiums around the country. Plus, questions specifically about the Lions help students learn about their local team!
Fastcar Geography - Begins February 2007. Grades 4–8
Rev up your engines! Fastcar Geography is a program based on the travels of NASCAR drivers as they cross landmarks and physical features of the United States en route to their exciting race destinations. The study of lakes, rivers, mountains, deserts, peninsulas and time zones are featured in this curriculum. This program includes a free 6-page math supplement that will have students using the sports section of the newspaper every Monday.
The Mini Page - Grades K–5
Educational facts and figures are developed for grades K–5. The page features interactive games, puzzles, recipes, interviews and articles with an emphasis on history, science and language arts.
WEDNESDAY
Serial Story, The Secret Life, Begins September 13 - Grades 4–12
An inspiring story involving an 11-year old girl living in the year 1914. The setting is New York city and the message is one of national importance because, behind it all is the story of the movement to earn women the right to vote.
Teen Newsbreak - Grades 6–12
Teen Newsbreak connects students with The Flint Journal and the world by making current events relevant through debates, news quizzes and "hot news tips."
THURSDAY
The Wide Awake Club - Ages 5–15
A collection of student stories, poems and drawings is published every Monday during the school year. Each week, new topics are assigned and student work may be submitted for possible publication on an upcoming Wide Awake Club page.
